Our next jam session will be about Blockchain and Ethereum. Join the discussion about an autonomous database in which no trusted authorities and central servers are needed!
Lightning Talkers for the Evening
David Duccini –Blockchain Technology: Bitcoins and Beyond – Digital Currencies got a boost in late 2008 when the mysterious and heretofore unknown “Satoshi Nakamoto” released the seminal whitepaper and a reference implementation to fully decentralized peer to peer protocol that supported a new digital currency called Bitcoin. Based on a “block chain” of ever increasing linked transactions a public ledger serves as the authoritative system of record of account for everyone in the Bitcoin economy. In this talk Duccini will provide an overview of Bitcoin, it’s protocol, capabilities and limitations as well as share a vision of what’s to come. David’s slides are now available: DevJam2017-DUCCINI-BLOCKCHAIN.pptx
James Mitchell– Sawtooth Lake is an enterprise-grade solution for building, deploying, and running distributed ledgers. It provides a modular and flexible platform for implementing transaction-based updates to shared state between untrusted parties coordinated by consensus algorithms. James’ slides are now available: sawtooth_devjam_20170308
Rob Yedlin– Ethereum provides interesting opportunities for users to engage in contractual agreements on decentralized platform. It is a crypto-currency blockchain technology, similar to Bitcoin. Unlike, Bitcoin, however, Ethereum allows apps, or smart contracts, to be deployed on the network. This talk will cover the basics of Ethereum, some of its current uses, some of its potential uses, and how to get started today! Rob’s slides are now available: Ethereum
Isabelle Moulinier– A Tool for D-APP Developers – Anonymity, which is at the core of public blockchains, can be a problem for commercial application developers. Thomson Reuters is developing a toolkit, BlockOne ID for Ethereum, that allows Web apps to access the public Ethereum blockchain using established digital identity providers. Isabelle’s slides are now available: BlockOneIDJamSession
